Open Studio 2010 was a huge success! My work was viewed and I was truly seen as an artist. Thank you to each and every one of you who came. Because of you, I reached my goal and now I will be able to work full time in the studios for another year. I feel so blessed that my work will be hung in the homes of beautiful kind people. Thank you so much! What a fun time! Looking forward to doing it all over again next year! I have attached the video that I made for this years Open Studio and some pictures of some of my fans that came to she show.
“The secret of life is in art.”

Well today, Inside The Studio, I painted Ganesha, the first deity called upon in Hindu worship, employs his great strength to remove obstacles and destroy ego. He brings good fortune and abundance. I have been really drawn to the deity Ganesh, and the process of painting him was fun and humorous.
I also painted some more lovely spirit birds.
I feel so happy and honored to be spending my days in the studio, painting for all of you. Remember Open Studio is around the corner and I would love for all of you to come and see my work in person. It will be the first two weekends in June, at my house in Oakland. See you there!

Today was a very productive day! I put on some good music, open the windows and felt the sunshine upon my skin while I painted away. It is just a few more weeks until Open Studios. I am trying to finish as much new work as possible to share with all of you. I have been enjoying working smaller. I won’t lie to you… It has been a challenge, but it has made me a stronger artist. Sometimes the best surprises are small. Anyway, just wanted to share with you my latest update, Inside The Studio. Looking forward to seeing you at my open studios!
My work thus far has been about my personal journey to be more awake and how to find joy in my life. Between the 108 Prayer Project, my recent paintings, and the ongoing video editing of my latest painting video, I have been able to be more present in my life. I plan on sharing this process in more depth with all of you at my Open Studio in June. I have always been an artist that paints in the moment. I cannot control the future. In fact the future only arrives in the present moment. I recently came across a quote from Goethe, which explains how I choose to live my life these days and I am going to share it with you…
“Keep your eyes fresh and open and joyful. And move with sure steps, yet flexibly through the fields of a world so richly endowed.”
I am so grateful for all that has come my way. My eyes are open and I am so grateful for my art studio and for the abundance of love and support from my friends, family and my partner Elana. I hope that you too take some time to keep your eyes fresh and open and joyful! Life is to short not too.
I have attached some of the paintings that will be shown at the show. I hope to see you there! It will be the first two weekends of June from 11 am to 6 pm.

I will be partaking in the East Bay Open Studios 2010. It will be held at my house in Oakland California. There will be a variety of different size paintings available for purchase. The debut of my latest painting video will be up for viewing as well! Those of you who have come to my Open Studio in the past know that with the purchase of a painting comes a free video! I hope to see both new and old faces this year! I am attaching my post card for the show. If you would like me to send you one in the mail or give you some extra to pass out please don’t hesitate to contact me through my website at Marlenewhite.com.
See you in June!

The 108 Walking Prayers Project, is about intention and practice. There are a total of 1o8 beads on my prayer necklace. I use my beads as a tool to repeatedly chant my prayers. When each prayer has come to the 108th bead, I stop and pay homage to where my prayer had come to an end. A photograph documents each prayer. It is quite simple, yet very hard. Then from there I allow the chants to transform into a poem. I hope you enjoy what I have to share.

Island sunrise Embracing a new day.
A circuses of clouds slowly move above me.
Meanwhile the warmth of the sandy Pacific Ocean embrace my bare feet.
And I walk into my truth…
A turquoise door quietly calls my name.
I have entered into a new way of seeing.
My truth is everlasting.
Birds fly in packs of three.
And I breathe.
Palm trees swaying to the rhythm of the waves.
Playful Crabs hide in the sand.
I take a deep breath….
So grateful I am.
The power of the breath is such a gift.
May all beings experience such bliss.
These two videos were created at Holderness School, N.H. The theme of this “Artward Bound” program was “Culture of Creativity”. They walked away from this class asking questions about process, the deeper meaning of art and the importance of art in today society. I hope you enjoy watching the videos as much as we enjoyed creating them.

Raindrops dripping prayers of hope.
My hot breath in tune with my feet.
Right Foot…
Breath…
Left Foot…
Breath…
Prayer Beads keeping me focus…
My eyes taking in the beauty…
A pile of stones marks a fork in my life’s path.
I see before me the tree that marked me leaving…
The remembrance of your cry makes my heart sad.
I stop and pay homage to our path and where we are now.
I am grateful.
I am sorry.
A prayer of self-forgiveness is next.
I return back to the moment.
I am where I need to be.
You are where you need to be.
We are where we are suppose to be.
Right Foot…
Left Foot…
Breath…
Raindrops ripple chants of freedom.
The spider web shares its secret.
The city is so grand…
Bench awaits my presence…
And I breathe thankfully…
May we all be happy.

I faced death today…
Dry bones scattered at my feet.
A starfish died among a sea of stones.
A prayer led me to a bench facing the grand Pacific Ocean…
It said…
“Let me gaze out across the water”
I pause to breath…
Eyes swell with tears…
The memory of Alie returns…
She is the angel that waits for me…
Returning back to the moment…
Returning to my heart…
The circle of compassion has expanded.
Mother Earth,
gifted me a walking stick.
I wonder if I can walk on water?
Four-legged companion is sniffing with delight.
Wild yellow flowers guide me to a cliff.
A bed of green grass was already made for me.
My eyes trace the edge of the world,
where the land dances with the sea.
Father Hawk soars above me.
Gazing at the sun.
I embrace the heavens as it falls asleep.
I feel blessed to have lived yet another full day.
And I breathe…

Toeing the line between the new and the old.
Right toe, Left toe…
Breath…
Returning to the moment…
Finding the lost screws within myself…
The reflections of my journey thus far surrounds me…
Eternal love,
Dancing between the sky and the earth.
My feet are becoming stronger…
No longer do I walk aimlessly…
I walk with intention…
Body awake.
Body centered.
Mother Tree embraces me with her poetic leaves.
The daisy flower giggles in the grass.
And I breathe in the ecstasy of the present moment.
I am content.
The Chinese New Year dances with the lover’s holiday.
The future door is bright like a star.
No longer is it locked.
The city horizon embraces me at the intersection of Carmel and Lincoln.
May all of you be happy.
May all of you be free from suffering.
It’s our history that makes us who we are.
Savor each moment like it your last.
Do the things you always wanted to.
Breath…
And walk the line with pride.
